Onshore Wind Potential Area in G20

[R]E SPACE assessed available onshore wind energy potential under space constrained conditions for G20 countries with a methodology developed by UTS-ISF One Earth Climate Model team. On the territory of the G20, the total theoretical onshore wind potentials under space-constrained conditions is estimated with 31.1 million km2 or 156 TW. The onshore wind potential of the G20 could generate 21 times the global electricity demand in 2020, under the assumption that an average wind turbine operates with a capacity factor of 34% (3,000 h/a), the wind potential of the G20 should be able to generate 467,000 TWh /year. Not included in this value is electricity from offshore wind which increases the wind potential by an order of magnitude.
